Split the Dark

Split the Dark, originally known as the Carlton Phillips Band, was a rock band started in 1981 by Marc Phillips and Tommy Carlton. Split the Dark enjoyed tremendous regional success and performed throughout the southeast through the 1980s. The band won the MTV Basement Tapes competition in 1986 with an overwhelming number of votes from viewers and fans. The band continued to compose and perform new material until its last show, at Louie Louie in Birmingham, Alabama in 1988.
